Midtown Global Market is hosting a Brazilian Carnival Celebration. The festivities will feature traditional food, music, dance, art, and martial arts, and is free and for all ages.
Carnaval Brasileiro will transform the Market into a festive Brazilian cultural experience, with singers, musicians, samba dancers, and artisans. Also filling the Market’s Central Court with carnival magic will be professional samba dancer/instructor Ginga da Bahia, offering Brazilian dance lessons and his own performance. There will also be a Capoeira demonstration, which is a dance-like Afro Brazilian martial art.
Guests may purchase authentic carnival masks created by master Brazilian artisan Goretti Aamot. Kids may make their own carnival mask for free as well.
Chef Soleil Ramirez of Arepa Bar, has created a special Carnaval menu for the day.
Carnaval is celebrated each year throughout Brazil for nearly a week; its roots date back to the 1700s. Like Mardi Gras, Carnaval is an all-out party with music, masks, dancing, and drinks - a final blowout before the pre-Easter season of Lent begins. This year, Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
