Preserve Rondo: Town Hall Demanding Transparency Re: Rondo Land Bridge

Host: TruArtSpeaks

A small consortium of community members have been calling for full transparency from Reconnect Rondo for weeks, join us to learn true impact

About this event

THIS IS A BLACK AFFINITY SPACE.

Respectfully, we ask that Black people are on the Zoom link and non-Black people are invited to watch Facebook Live.

Please join us in an open conversation about the proposed $459 Million dollar Land Bridge being powered by Reconnect Rondo, to be built over I94 spanning from Grotto to Chatsworth.

Let’s open up the conversation. Include more voices. Move beyond giving input on aesthetics and discuss anti-displacement. Specifically, since this project has been in the works for 5+ years. The people it impacts can’t be an afterthought.

There is a history of silencing, non-disclosure, etc. as it relates to the planning, community engagement and development in this project to date. As a result of the before mentioned of that, the following demands were sent to The Reconnect Rondo board by a constituency of community members on June 15th, 2021 after a request to meet was sent and delayed:

  • We demand authentic community engagement

    • The descendants of Old Rondo, at large, must be contacted and included as the story of their family loss is at the center of the campaign to build the Rondo Land Bridge

    • Current land and property owners, business owners, etc. (particularly BIPOC community members), must be fully informed of the desire to build the Rondo Land Bridge and each of the ways it will impact them

  • · We demand the formation of an advisory committee comprised of Black Residents who currently live and/or work in Rondo and/or are descendants of Old Rondo

  • We demand that a Racial Equity Impact Analysis, a Fiscal Impact Analysis, a Health Impact Analysis and an Environmental Analysis, are each conducted by external entities selected by the advisory committee

  • We demand full transparency regarding the impact of property tax increase and Reconnect Rondo’s plan to abate and support that

  • We demand full transparency about the impact of the desired name change of Concordia Avenue to Rondo Avenue and what it will cost residents

  • We demand to know the implications of prolonged construction and the impact on the health and livability for those living and working in the area.

  • We demand the release of a full financial report of funds spent and obtained as it pertains to the Rondo Land Bridge

  • We demand to know the scope of the property tax impact by neighborhood, zone and address

  • We demand that Reconnect Rondo and it’s collaborators be in support of the “Right to Return” policy, ensuring that formerly displaced Rondo Residents have first rights to true affordable housing on the Rondo Land Bridge

  • We demand full transparency and identification of current Reconnect Rondo Board Members

  • We demand full transparency regarding the developers contracted and/or being considered for the construction of the Rondo Land Bridge

  • We demand the release of data and documentation containing notes on community needs, wants and concerns coupled with Reconnect Rondo’s plans and commitment to address those concerns, dated and broken down by race.

  • We demand to the release of a record/report that indicates, categorized by date, address and methodology, that each resident, business owner, property owner and Old Rondo descendent was verbally informed of the Land Bridge and its progress

  • We demand that the construction of the Rondo Land Bridge be shaped and co-created by the people, via an updated RFP, that takes into account the lessons learned from the Light Rail displacement

  • We demand repair and reconciliation for all community members who have been shut down, silenced and discouraged from asking critical questions of Reconnect Rondo and the Land Bridge
