September’s 38th and Chicago Re-Envisioned Learning Table, “History of the Community”
Created by Public Policy Project, The Learning Table provides a place to develop partnership, share ideas, and make commitments for including in the Re-Envision 38th & Chicago Project.
Tracey Williams-Dillard, CEO and publisher of the MN Spokesman Recorder, offered a look back at the intersection and environs of 38th and Chicago. Many people who grew up in the area were present and contributed their impressions, experiences and insights about the neighborhood. She called for something “beautiful and representative without forgetting what happened <here>.”
The 4Formula architecture team provided three sets of graphics to work with ‘Forces’, ‘History’, and ‘Current/Cultural Opportunities’ related to the intersection. The impact of 35W highway split and the redlining practice of the 30’s figured prominently in discussion.
