Organizations from all corners and people from all walks of life are taking steps to repair, heal and strengthen our community. The variety of private and public groups providing resources and people for this purpose will support more far-reaching and impactful outcomes.

Community Garden at Powderhorn Park
There is specific funding available for gardens that is separate from the current project shared in the draft concept plans
Next steps for creating a new community garden at Powderhorn Park will involve MPRB staff working with community to design and plan for this project

THE ART OF MARLENA MYLES
Marlena is a self-taught digital artist located in St. Paul, Minnesota. She uses her art to celebrate her Indigenous culture and language (Spirit Lake Dakota, Mohegan. Creek). She is the illustrator of Thanku: Poems of Gratitude and is currently creating her first Dakota culture coloring book, to be published early 2023.
“New Dawn” chosen for Midtown Greenway Sculpture
The solar-powered sculpture will be located in East Phillips, a majority BIPOC neighborhood that has experienced continued racial health disparities due to toxic environmental pollution. While one light-emitting sculpture cannot erase years of neglect, it can become a beacon of hope and help light a new way forward for this neighborhood and our community.
Mixed Blood Theatre Finds Its Next Artistic Director
Jack Reuler cheered the arrival of his successor in a statement announcing Valdez’s appointment.
“Mark has been a resident artist, guest director, playwright, organizer, advisor, confidant, and friend to Mixed Blood and me since 2006,” said Reuler. “I can’t wait to see how this progressive organization will evolve under his leadership.”
2800 E. Lake Street Property Donated to Nonprofit Seward Redesign
Taylor Smrikárova, project leader from Seward Redesign says, “Our team is intently committed to ensuring that the U.S. Bank property is lifted up as a demonstration site for wealth creation for communities of color. When this shared vision is achieved, the result will be that each parcel will be owned by BIPOC-led businesses or community organizations.”

Highpoint is delighted to partner with Delita Martin and Tanekeya Word to deliver the exhibition A Contemporary Black Matriarchal Lineage in Printmaking. Curated by Tanekeya and Delita, this show centers the narratives of Black women printmakers, by Black women printmakers.

Tiny Diner is looking to power worker/community ownership by converting to a cooperative. What is a cooperative? A cooperative ownership model is an opportunity to shift ownership and power to the community and workers. Cooperatives help to create access to ownership of businesses and property, making shared profits a reality for those who might not otherwise have pathways to self-determination, community impact, and ownership.
Update on EPNI Urban Farm Initiative: Council Votes to Suspend City's Expansion of Hiawatha Campus in Phillips Community
On April 30th, the City Council voted 12-1 in favor of a staff direction to suspend the City's expansion of the Hiawatha facility in East Phillips. In addition, at the Business, Housing, Inspections, and Zoning Committee (BHIZ) on May 4, the associated Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) was postponed until August 5th at Committee of the Whole (COW)
