In this experiential workshop, empowerment-based self-defense blends with yoga, somatic therapies, hands-on healing, guided imagery and ritual arts. We will explore practices to help align our actions with our core values. We will practice ways to decrease fear and reactivity, build confidence and mobilize resources for constructive social change.
We will use astrology as a framework for understanding the energy within and around us, learning about boundaries from Saturn, passion and resistance from Mars, safety from the Moon, compassion and connection from Venus and Jupiter, and self-expression from Mercury, all while anchored in the life-force of the Sun.

Licensed Acupuncturist & Registered Naturopathic Doctor
Dr. Montgomery is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Registered Naturopathic Doctor who works with adults and children to support their overall mind-body health. Dr. Montgomery has a special interest in addressing mental health and emotional wellbeing of her patients. She combines her knowledge of Chinese Medicine and acupuncture with Naturopathic (or Functional) medicine to understand how stress, nutrition, physical health and the gut microbiome contributes to mental health symptoms. She empowers patients with strategies and lifestyle habits for better brain health and emotional wellbeing. In her clinical work, Dr. Montgomery is passionate about collaborating with other providers to provide a holistic approach to mental health care.

Sliding Scale Pricing
The Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing is deeply committed to the wellbeing and flourishing of all communities. In order to make our programming accessible to a broader audience, we have implemented a sliding scale fee structure for these online workshops.
The suggested registration fee is $15 per workshop. We also offer a scholarship rate ($10) and supporter rate ($20) for those who would like to support others attending at the scholarship rate.
We do not want cost to be a barrier to participating in our programming. If you are not able to pay one of the listed registration fees, you are able to participate at no cost.
University of Minnesota Employees and Spouses: Earn 200 points per workshop when you participate in the Mental Health and Nutrition series for the University of Minnesota's Wellbeing Program. In Healing Motion, we use the skills of focused breath work, intentional movement, and creative arts expression to aid in the processing of trauma from sexual abuse.
Though our group is specifically for survivors of sexual trauma, we believe that all people can benefit from these skills. Yoga mats and all creative supplies will be provided. Face masks are recommended. Proof of vaccination and/or negative test results required.
